How do you do exponential functions in higher maths?

Hi im doing scottish higher maths i got a c in my prelim but i want a B for my exam next wednesday and i was doing past papers and realised im pretty bad at exponential function yknow the a=something to the power of -0.0004t those stupid things so an explaination of how to go about doing them would be fab:)
