What does it mean when a girl say "Well, I wasn't trying to like you"?!?!?

Well when a girl is asked out, some think it's a joke, you know, to see if the girl really does like the guy and if she does she gets rejected. Sick game, really. I think she didn't understand the situation, she said 'well i wasn't trying to like you' meaning that she shouldn't be blamed for liking you or bugged about it just because she has feelings.
